My mother has been making us apple crisp since we were babies. It has always and continues to be a favourite treat!
- 5 cups of pared and sliced tart apples (with 2T of water and lemon juice if desired – 1/2 lemon)
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- ¾ cup of flour
- ¾ cup of oats
- 1tsp of cinnamon
- ½ cup of butter/margarine (soft)
Arrange apples in buttered, 9-inch pie plate. Combine brown sugar, flour, oats and cinnamon.
Cut in butter or margarine till crumbly. Press mixture over apples. Bake at 180ºC for 45 to 50 minutes. Serve warm with cream or ice cream.
