To aid you in your travels, here is brief Garden Getaway to the eight National Botanical Gardens strategically situated throughout the country in five major natural regions or biomes. It is brought to you by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), an autonomous, state-aided organisation whose mission is to promote the sustainable use, conservation, appreciation and enjoyment of the exceptionally rich biodiversity of South Africa, for the benefit of all people.

Free State

Free State National Botanical Garden – Typical of the grassland region, this garden spans a valley between picturesque dolerite koppies (small hills) capped with rocky outcrops.
