Sectional title corner – Can I deduct improvements from my levy?
The company that runs the complex is not very helpful at all. The managing agent of the body corporate does not answer mails all the time and I do not like phoning as then I have no proof of our concerns. I have done so a few times and got no joy.
Our complex is very run down and is not being looked after. I spoke to one of the trustees and asked about maintenance to which he replied, “no comment” as when they ask for money they are told there is none.
We are batting to sell our flat as when potential buyers see the complex and surrounds and hear what the levies are they are not interested.
My partner is going to clean and make it a better view for all in the complex. We have said we would pay it out of our levies for the month of end February and give the managing agent the breakdown. Can we do this?
An owner who does something on behalf of the body corporate and deducts it from his levies must make sure that he has the trustees’ approval first. The trustees must ensure that the expense is within the scheme’s budget.
