Sectional title corner – Can owners now attend trustees’ meetings?
Hi, there seems to be some confusion regarding owners attending trustees’ meetings. As recently as 2015 it was stated that owners could only attend trustees’ meetings if invited. However, reading the new act, this seems to have fallen away?
There is also no mention of spouses (non-owners) being “entitled” to attend or how joint owners may attend (both or one by proxy). – Robert
This has fallen away yes. They can attend and speak, but cannot vote and can be requested to leave the meeting if confidential information will be discussed.
There is no such thing as a proxy for a trustee meeting, so if the spouse wants to attend they need to be given power of attorney to act on behalf of that unit. The same applies to joint owners.
